Call for Qt Ambassadors

Posted by Katherine on December 9, 2010 · 17 comments

In the past, it has been pretty hard to find out about all the cool projects that have been built with Qt.
I guess no one really had a reason to tell us about their nifty projects. Why would you?
Suddenly, a dawning epiphany landed on me mind, “If we build it, they will come …”

Alas, the Qt Ambassador Program was born out of a hope to unite Qt developers and show the world that indeed
Qt is used to develop pretty awesome wonders. It is a membership-only program where you can showcase your Qt
project/product by submitting a write-up about what you have developed and as well as
a bit about yourself. Seeing is believing, so screenshots and videos of your project are encouraged.
Wouldn’t it be cool to see your application on our Website?

The program improves daily and a couple of neat features/benefits are being added this month to make it easier for
Qt Ambassadors to pick each other’s brains on their topic of choice. Make sure you apply before the end of December
to take advantage of pretty nifty benefits.

What you get:

  • Showcase your Qt project(s) on the Qt Ambassador Website
  • Participation in Qt Beta Programs (when available)
  • Candidate to be a speaker at Qt Developer Days
  • Possibility to have your application/device featured in our Qt videos
  • Possibility to have your project sponsored by Qt
  • Qt Ambassador merchandise. Phones? Ja, if you behave.

Anyone can apply, as long as you have developed your project/product with Qt. We don’t discriminate – only on
the framework, and that is legal. Apply now.

Check out some of the Qt Ambassador projects in the showcase.

Small note: Thanks to all that have applied so far. Sorry, if we haven’t gotten back to you on your application yet.
We have gotten quite many. Don’t worry. We are on it.

What status must the project be in? I am currently developing something but it is quite incomplete now.

Ambassadors? Will everything I write be leaked? :)

Being an Ambassador one complain I have is that level of engagement with us is very low. I barely hear from you guys.

@Dom: We prefer if your project is in a final state, but as long as you feel confident that it is good enough for public showcasing, then go for it.

@Frank: Yes, of course. We leak everything! Nah ;-)

@Ankur: Sorry about that. You were the very first Ambassador ever :-) Bravo. We are shaping up all our benefits offering with neat things to come soon. Stay tuned. Feel free to write us with any suggestions at qt-ambassadors@nokia.com.

I’ve already applied to be an ambassador, fixed what you wanted me to fix but I see no response about what next at all. Project name is qgvdial.

Wow that was fast! Next problem: In the showcase, select “Open source” from the dropdown, it says “Authorization required” and asks me to log in, but provides no place to login. Besides, what am I supposed to login to?

@Uv: Yikes! A creepy bug. We are on it. Thanks for the heads up.

hi,
i would urgently need my ambassador shirts.

I go to the gym every second day and would love to advertise Qt on my chicken breast…

One more bug: On the project page, there are 2 broken image links both of which seem to have the same force.com login requirement.
Also: I’m a little unclear about the following: If I update my project information, when does it get updated on the project page?
I ask this because no project is ever static. If I ever want to be competitive then I must keep adding features and then updating the showcase information. How much time does it take for the information to be updated after I update it on my project page?

Hi,
at first, thanks for the awesome framework :) My question is: when is the deadline? I’m finishing my thesis with Qt now, but it will be ready in a month or two.

11 Katherine December 10, 2010 at 11:13 am

@tam: Bad ass t-shirts coming your way as well as all ambassadors who haven’t received one yet.

@Uv: If you need to make an update to your project, you should log back into your Ambassador portal and edit in there. If you the project appears locked in the portal, send an email to qt-ambassador@nokia.com. We tend to lock them, so no one else can make changes to it. Once you save your edits, you must send an email to qt-ambassador@nokia.com to make sure the update is posting. Normally, it happens quite quickly. We are working on the improving the back-end system and making the portal more automated so that Ambassadors can have more flexibility in updating their projects. We are also adding soon the ability to have Ambassadors upload more than one project.

@matt: There is no deadline to apply. We are always accepting applications.

I’m currently a Qt Ambassador, how can I apply to have my project sponsored by Qt ?

13 Ankur December 10, 2010 at 8:27 pm

@Katherine Having watched Qt evolve from 2002 to now I have tremendous faith in those behind Qt and really love the community that helped answer my questions over forum. Happy to payback my dues to this community.

@Robin: We will select projects on a periodic basis from the Ambassador pool. If you have any particular questions about this, please send an e-mail to qt-ambassadors@nokia.com

@Ankur: Thanks for the nice words of encouragement. The entire Qt team appreciates this very much :-)

Thank you for this opportunity :-)

It feels great that there are possibilities to get some recognition for the hobby projects as well and to demonstrate the skills and knowledge, which should be an excellent merit when acquiring a paid job and when establishing a solid public ground on the framework which you love. <3

No reply yet from Qt Ambassador team… :(

@krishkn: Sorry about that. When did you apply? What is the name of your project?
