A few days ago, we read via planet KDE that ‘Kolor Lines’, a KDE game runs on S60. I enjoy seeing what people do already with the tech previews of Qt for S60. So, I grabbed my camera and made this small clip:
This is just one of many examples demonstrating the benefit of one common application framework: Qt. Smart, creative code can more easily conquer new platforms.
According to the Kolor Lines author, it was not too hard to put a few #ifdefs into the KDE version of the code in order to have a pure Qt version. I am curious to see how many KDE apps/games will follow

Great video! Thanks, Alessandro
Nice video. You have a very melodic voice.
Is Qt going to become the main GUI toolkit for S60 phones?
The real killer would of course be kdelibs running on Qt fro S60. The I can attempt to run Amarok on my 5800. All we need is a fluid UI build with the new declarative UI’s and S60 v5 will have a decent music-player / podcast-client.
Thanks for the presentation. Now this video can convince me that building an electronic learning application (for student project) using Qt Framework on Qt S60 is feasible; when the product released off course.
Jokes. No offense, but Kolor is mean underwear in slank Indonesia, so the title itself can make them giggle, he he he. I know that yout actually mean KDE-Color Lines.
Nice one, Alessandro! Looks terrific and I imagine many games as this one can come from the KDE.
Do we have an estimate date of release for the S60 port yet?
@dimsuz: It’s a pleasure
Thanks for sharing your work.
@Tim: Thank you very much. Maybe I unconsciously try to compensate my German accent with that
My (biased) standpoint is that Qt will be the official, native way to write Applications for Symbian/S60/etc. . It is however pretty hard to find official and concrete informations. Maybe here… http://blog.symbian.org/2009/03/12/introducing-the-release-plan/
@Bart: I agree. Otoh, It would be great to have helpers/conventions to make simple KDE apps optionally buildable with Qt only, basically without some of the KDE integration features. Where do we start?
@BeGo: Great. Applications basing on Qt can be very scalable. And even on devices like S60, Maemo and Windows Mobile, they stay well within the resource limits.
Maybe, the Kolor Line authors will mention the double meaning in their docs
@Kensai: Thanks
The credits go to dimsuz. I am also looking forward to some nice KDE games and applications on S60 and other Qt-enabled platforms.
The full first release of Qt for S60 is scheduled for summer this year. And the plan is to have the S60 port as additional platform in Qt 4.6, which is scheduled later this year.
